A woman, who was traveling in a truck, died on Wednesday after being swept away by the flooding of a river in the Rinconada Department of the Puna of Jujuy, while three other occupants of the vehicle were rescued, police sources reported.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the vicinity of the Uquilayoc River, in the Department of Rinconada, in the heart of the Jujuy Puna, when a truck was swept away by the waters that surprised by their growth in a few minutes.
The phenomenon was observed by police officers from the Cusi-Cusi town sub-commissioning station, who were at the scene and managed to rescue three people who tried to cross the river aboard a Toyota brand truck, they indicated.
The police officers, who were leaving their guard duty, observed how the water carried away the vehicle, so they immediately went into the river and managed to get three people out with the collaboration of other citizens.
During the rescue, the troops reported that “unfortunately a woman who was in the same vehicle lost her life”, after being dragged by the force of the flood.
The three saved men were taken in a vehicle to the health center of the mining company in Pirquitas, where they received medical assistance, while the details of the deceased woman were recorded.
During the summer season, the streams and rivers grow abruptly due to the heavy rains that are registered in the Puna of Jujuy, for which the authorities recommend traveling with caution on the provincial routes.
