They capture seven -colored castañeta specimen in the stream at the rowers club
In the last hours the capture of a seven -colored castañeta specimen was recorded, also known as Papagallo Castañeta (gymnogeophagus gymnogenys), in the stream located at the height of the Club Remers.
It is a kind of cyclid originally from eastern Uruguay and southern Brazil, recognized for its unique beauty. His elongated and strong body presents yellow-orange shades on the sides, and in many cases looks a black spot characteristic on the eyes that resembles an mask.
The males, in the playback, can develop a giba in the head and reach lengths of up to 15 centimeters. The Castañeta inhabits rivers and lagoons, where it is usually hidden between aquatic vegetation and feed on small invertebrates that you seek in the background.
The discovery of this copy in local waters confirms the wealth of the ichtholic fauna of the region and underlines the importance of preserving the natural habitat of native species that are part of the country’s biological heritage.
