A vocation for patients makes Amadita a success story

A vocation for patients makes Amadita a success story

The 1960s were about to begin, and at that time the Dominican Republic had just over 3.04 million inhabitants. Health services expected growth. In that context, in that hinge between one decade and another, a Dominican appeared to make history: Amada Pittaluga de González.

He had completed a postgraduate degree at the Presbyterian Hospital, in Philadelphia, United States. He also worked there for a while. With that load of knowledge, he returned to his country to offer his talents to the Dominicans. She thus became a pioneer of national bioanalysis and the founder of Amadita. A success story that is now 65 years old.

In the 1970s, the laboratory became the first to move toward automation. From there it expanded throughout the country, increasing its portfolio of services, opening new paths for Dominican medical care.

But something has not changed in 65 years, even after Doña’s physical absence. Amaditaoccurred in 2023: the spirit of dedication for patients. The founder emphasized her vocation so much that it became the tacit practice in her laboratories: “Good treatment of the patient is not only a duty but an act of love.”

The new north of Amadita

Just as the laboratory was the first to move towards automation in the country, the first to achieve ISO certification, the first to implement neonatal screening or the first to set up a center specialized in vaccination; It will also continue to innovate, starting with its management.

Since 2019, the organization has been modernizing its management. This began with the strengthening of the Board of Directors, which included the third generation of the family and external and independent professionals.

Now, this year, he assumes the presidency to direct the destinies of AmaditaAlberto Bergés González, continuing the legacy of Mrs. Amada Pittaluga and Patrícia González Pittaluga.

With the new strategy, progress is made in the consolidation of corporate governance, essential to achieve the dynamism required by the challenges of the current market.

“These changes imply institutional strengthening, technological innovation and meticulous care of the entire ecosystem and local and international indicators. We have committed to investing in cutting-edge technology, diversifying our portfolio and maintaining our human talent as the central axis of our operation. Because we know that the future of Amadita It depends on the people who work hard every day,” said Giancarlo Sanguinetti Durand, CEO of the organization.

A well-deserved celebration

Representatives of the González-Pittaluga family and the organization’s leadership offered a celebration for the 65th anniversary.

The activity highlighted the achievements of the laboratory, especially those aimed at early childhood, such as the vaccination center and prenatal screening. The latter helps to identify, in the first 28 days of birth, possible diseases such as congenital metabolic disorders, glucose deficiency, hyperthyroidism, cystic fibrosis, among other pathologies.

This test was applied to 200 newborns from vulnerable families this year, as part of their cooperation with the community, which also includes more than 15 years of support for the Operación Sonrisa Foundation.

Sanguinetti Durand does not hesitate to affirm that more innovations and contributions to health in the Dominican Republic will come from the hand of Amadita: “A future is coming that will be synonymous with expansion, modernization and modernization of our services. But, above all, it will be guided by our values, which will continue to be the compass that guides us in every decision.”
