Recently, Pope Francis revealed that he felt, and we quote, “frightened” of what he defined as “an increasingly violent world”. In a speech delivered in St. Peter’s Square, on the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the creation of the lay Communication and Liberation movement, His Holiness stated: “The increasingly violent and warlike world scares me. It really scares me.”
The pontiff’s concern is shared by billions of people around the world. And no wonder.
Violence has taken over every space and lives in every corner of the earth.
If true. We live in violent and warlike times, where the value and love of life, our own and that of others, has lost meaning.
Humanity has lost its values.
People have allowed the flame of love for themselves and for their neighbor to be extinguished.
Gone are the dreams to be realized or the goals to be achieved through effort and dedication. Now, what is desired is snatched or obtained by trickery.
What is wanted, if it already belongs to someone else, is obtained by hook, by crook or destroyed.
Violence reigns in homes, where a child’s capacity is overwhelmed by not being able to assimilate that his father, the man he loves most in life, in a moment of anger became the murderer of his mother.
Schools are scenes of physical, psychological and verbal violence. Violence is exercised in the workplace, both to exercise and to defend against some type of abuse.
Not to mention the streets. You just have to see the aggressiveness in the way of driving and the arbitrariness in the way of parking the vehicles.
In the neighborhoods, the disrespect is evident. There is no lack of the neighbor who listens at full volume to strident music and if that were not enough, plagued with indecency, vulgarity and obscenities with which he invades the homes of others, and woe to anyone who dares to ask him to lower the scandal a little. Politics is aggressive and governance is too.
Perhaps for this reason, world leaders have taken their powers very seriously, which they consider unlimited, and feel entitled to put an end to humanity, rather than give in, rather than admit as a mistake, one or another failed military exercise . Irrationality breeds violence, it is the cause of abuse, cruel cruelty of irrational acts, even committed by rational beings.
