BBC 100 Women recognizes the price women have had to pay this year, celebrating those who, through their resilience, are driving change, as the world changes around them
The BBC revealed its list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2024. They include Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad, activist and rape survivor Gisèle Pelicot, actress Sharon Stone, Olympic athletes Rebeca Andrade and Allyson Felix, the singer Raye, the visual artist Tracey Emin, the climate activist Adenike Oladosu, the writer Cristina Rivera Garza and the Venezuelan Katherine Martínez, human rights lawyer.
From facing deadly conflicts and humanitarian crises in Gaza, Lebanon, Ukraine and Sudan, to witnessing the polarization of societies following a record number of elections around the world, women have had to dig deep and find new levels of resilience.

The list also remains committed to exploring the impact of the climate emergency, highlighting female climate pioneers working to help their communities address its impacts.
Katherine Martinez, Venezuela
The human rights lawyer Katherine Martinez She is the director of the NGO Prepara Familia, which cares for children with chronic pathologies. Many of the young patients at the José Manuel de Los Ríos children’s hospital in Caracas, Venezuela, come from low-income, single-parent homes.
Prepare Familya non-governmental organization founded by Katherine Martínez, provides them with the essentials; clothing, medicine and food, as well as psychological support.
As a human rights lawyer, Martínez keeps a record of what she and her team see as human rights violations against children and the women who care for them in the hospital environment, to allow victims to seek compensation.
Faced with the high rates of malnutrition in Venezuela, Prepara Familia also opened a center to offer children and pregnant women nutritional supplements and vitamins free of charge.
