A United Nations subcommittee for the prevention of torture will arrive in Bolivia in December

He Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture and Other Cruel Treatment or PunishmentInhuman or Degrading of the Committee against Torture (SPT) of the United Nations will arrive in Bolivia on an official visit.

The information was confirmed in a statement from the Ministry of Justice and Institutional Transparency released on Thursday.

The subcommittee will arrive at the invitation of the Bolivian State and will be from December 1 to 12.

“This event will constitute the third periodic visit carried out by the SPT in observance of the ‘Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment’, ratified by Law 3298 of December 12, 2005,” highlights the note from the Ministry of Justice.

It is known that the subcommittee will have a series of official and technical meetings with authorities from different State bodies, but it also plans visit prison facilities and have meetings with international organizations and other civil society organizations.

“As is usual in field visits, the Bolivian State will greatly facilitate the execution of the activities planned by the SPT, respecting its independence, the principle of confidentiality and unrestricted mobilization throughout national territory,” quotes another paragraph of the statement.
