A passenger truck has been the protagonist of two traffic accidents in Sancti Spíritus in less than 48 hours this week, where one person died and another is recovering from his injuries.
The victim of the tragedy is the teacher Daney Susey Ramírez Padrón, who passed away early this Sunday at the hospital, after suffering serious injuries. The accident occurred on Friday morning and, according to witnesses, the victim was riding a bicycle in the opposite direction, in front of the Etecsa offices.
“It hit the car from the back, the driver did not know anything until after it had passed,” wrote Diamelys Rodríguez on Facebook, who assured that there are many witnesses to the unfortunate event. Ramírez Padrón was a teacher at the Serafín Sánchez primary school, in the provincial capital, and she leaves behind two little girls.
The public transport vehicle, a Russian-made Kamaz with license plate B133134, against which Ramírez Padrón crashed was driven by Jalieski Gómez, according to the local press, and on Wednesday of that same week, this driver had had one less scare tragic.
That morning, there was a lot of traffic when Armando Peraza Yumar, 83, wanted to cross the intersection of Frank País Street, in front of the RadioCuba store. The man was run over by the truck and got under the wheels.
The accident occurred on Friday morning and, according to witnesses, the victim was riding a bicycle in the opposite direction, in front of the Etecsa offices.
It was the same witnesses to the accident who pulled Peraza Yumar from between the wheels of the vehicle. The old man went in his electric wheelchair to the Los Olivos Rehabilitation Room, where he was treated for his bad knee, and when crossing “Armando got confused among so many bicycles, motorcycles, cars and pedestrians who were also trying to cross,” writes the official journalist Yosdany Morejon.
With the collar that they just put on him and from his house, the man reported that he did not see the truck coming and does not remember how they got it out. “I woke up in the hospital full of pain and with multiple bumps and bruises,” Peraza told the local newspaper. Escambray.
Witnesses to the event say that both accidents have occurred in the same area. “It’s the intersection that runs from Etecsa, a building in front of the provincial hospital, to Radio Cuba, in front of Revolution Square, the same block,” one person told 14ymedio.
In social networks, those who affirm that they were traveling in the truck assure that Gómez is not responsible for the unfortunate accidents.
At the beginning of June, Colonel Mario Ríos Labrada, head of the Vehicle Registry of the National Traffic Directorate, updated data on the accident rate in Cuba. There he stated that another concern on this issue is the risk of being run over in the street, because of six people run over in accidents, one dies.
