Havana Cuba. – A truck belonging to the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) who suffered a spectacular accident last weekend on Serafines street in the Diez de Octubre municipality, still remains stranded on public roads.
The truck, Zil brand and model 130, was transporting several meters of rubble when one of its rear tires came off with the axle included. No injuries or deaths were reported, but there was material damage: the protective ring on the rear rubber hit the door of Tin Shop 33, belonging to the Provincial Company for Gastronomy Production and Services.
After the accident, the workshop employees had to repair the door panels damaged by the impact.
On the other hand, the rubber on the right side of the truck also came loose, causing damage to the brake bands as they were left exposed against the pavement. The truck crawled about 15 meters before coming to a stop.
The vehicle, manufactured at the time of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and with more than 30 years of use, was designed to drive with six tires, but at the time of the accident it only had two at the rear. According to witnesses, the truck’s poor technical condition represented a danger to road safety.
The Zil 130 was designed for light loads, unlike dump trucks, more suitable for heavy work. After the accident, the driver and several helpers tried to lift the truck with a piece of felled tree and several pieces of wood, but they were unsuccessful and they abandoned the vehicle.
During the nights, the truck obstructs the street without any signage warning drivers about the obstacle. In interview with CubaNetresidents of the area expressed their concern about the danger posed by the circulation of vehicles in poor condition and the lack of caution of some drivers.
