The Minister of Health, Carolina Corcho, reiterated that a third of what will be collected with the Tax Reform in 2023 will be for the health portfolio and its main points of work, given the financial imbalances that this sector is going through.

The announcement, which had already been made by the minister during her last visit to the Seventh Commission of the Senate, was reiterated and some details were given during a public hearing with the Oversight Office of the Congress of the Republic.
According to Corcho, next year Congress is expected to vote a budget additionbecause although the budget for the health portfolio was already defined, it was done before the tax reform.
In this sense, of the 20 billion pesos that the tax will leave in the country, “a third of that goes to health“said the official.
The minister revealed that this money that dIt must enter in 2023 to strengthen the health reform process that is taking place and is intended to cover three key points. The first is the increase in the Uptake Payment Unit (UPC), that is, the money that the system recognizes to the EPS for each of its affiliates, to cover the Health Benefits Plan (PBS).

The second is the promise of the Ministry of Transport to reduce the SOAT fee by 50%, proposal that will come into force from December 15 and that it would touch State resources through the Adres, the entity that manages health money in the country.
Finally, Corcho assured that part of this additional budget will also go to what is known as Maximum Budgets, which is the amount that The health system turns to the EPS for care outside the PBS that its affiliates require.
