At 2:11 p.m., the first alert came out that the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, was intercepted by police officers in civilian clothes who, after assaulting the driver, took the first authority in Santa Cruz without a known destination. Twenty-one minutes later, a Red Devils super puma took off from the Viru Viru airport, according to a report from the III Air Brigade.

The document, to which EL DEBER had access, is dated December 28, 2022 and states that the aircraft took off at 14:32 and landed in Chimoré (Cochabamba) at 15:30.

The report of the military unit dependent on the Bolivian Air Force indicates that the crew was made up of three captains and two sergeants and that the flight was “in support of the Ministry of Government.”

Violence during capture

“They fired at the motorized vehicle, they kicked me, they took all my things, as if they were assaulting (…),” said Camacho’s driver when he arrived at the airport trying to chase the police vehicles.

The group called Los Lobos from the Intelligence and Special Operations Group (GIOE), from the Special Force to Fight Drug Trafficking, carried out the operation to arrest the governor.

This information was confirmed to EL DEBER by Felcn police officers who requested that their names be reserved. They ensured that this special group operated with long arms which are usually used in high-risk operations to combat drug trafficking mafias.

Del Castillo confirms the apprehension

Camacho’s apprehension was confirmed by the Minister of Government, Eduardo del Castillo. “We inform the Bolivian people that the Bolivian Police complied with the arrest warrant against Mr. Luis Fernando Camacho,” he wrote on his Twitter account, at 2:42 p.m., when the Red Devils super puma had already left the Viru Viru.

So far (4:00 p.m., this Wednesday), no authority has informed where he was transferred the governor of Santa Cruz, who had an arrest warrant for him to appear to testify in the city of La Paz due to the 2019 crisis and, recently, had been accused of “terrorism” for the 36-day strike.
