The Executive decreed this Sunday, the state of emergency in the regions of Mother of God, Cusco, Puno, Apurimac, Arequipa, Moquegua and tacnabecause of the demonstrations that have been registered in the country since last December 7.

According to the supreme decree published in the official newspaper El Peruano, the state of emergency will have a period of 60 calendar days in the 7 mentioned regions. During that time the National Police of Peru (PNP) “maintains control of internal order, with the support of the Armed Forces” (FF.AA.) and will have as its objective the “protection of National Critical Assets”.
In addition, the rights relating to the inviolability of the home, freedom of transit through the national territory, freedom of assembly and personal freedom and security established in the Political Constitution of Peru.
The state of emergency has specifications in Puno. “The control of internal order is in charge of the Armed Forces, incorporating the PNP (…) in the area declared in a State of Emergency”, the regulations specify.
