For 60 days, the government of the Republic of Peru decreed a State of Emergency in 18 districts of Metropolitan Lima and four in Callao, as a result of the effects caused by the passage of Cyclone Yaku, which generated heavy rains and floods in the country.
Through a Supreme Decree it was explained that the 60 days will be used “for the execution of exceptional, immediate and necessary measures and actions to reduce the existing Very High Risk, as well as the corresponding response and rehabilitation.”
The authorities indicated that the districts of Metropolitan Lima that will be in Emergency are Lima, Chorrillos, El Agustino, Cieneguilla, La Molina, Independencia, La Victoria, Los Olivos, Lurín, Lurigancho, Puente Piedra, Rímac, Santa Anita, Pachacámac, San Juan from Lurigancho, San Juan de Miraflores, Villa El Salvador and Villa María del Triunfo.
While in Callao are Carmen de la Legua Reynoso, Mi Peru, Callao and Ventanilla.
Authorities confirmed that at least seven people died after heavy rains. Cyclone Yaku is expected to be moving away from the coasts of Peru as of April 15.
