A Spanish tourist has died as a result of the explosion recorded this Friday at the Saratoga luxury hotel in Havana (Cuba). In addition, another Spanish tourist is seriously injured, as reported this Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Hotel Saratoga, in the Cuban capital, which has been closed for two years due to the pandemic, was ready to open its doors and receive the first tourists. The explosion that occurred yesterday has swept away everything planned and has caused numerous damages.

for now, there are 22 deceased and more than 64 injured. The incident occurred around 10:50 a.m. (local time, mid-afternoon in Spain) and would have happened while a transfer of liquefied gas was being carried out from a truck, as reported by the Cuban authorities, who have ruled out that it is an attack.

Inside the hotel there was only a team of employees, who were working on setting up the property for its reopening on May 10, after being closed for two years due to the coronavirus crisis.

Among the deceased, in addition to the Spanish citizenthere would be a boy. In addition, 14 minors are still admitted to the hospital for damages of different kinds. The authorities are working to analyze the situation, since in addition to the hotel, seven more buildings have been affected in their foundations.
