Santo Domingo.- Aware of the growing mental health crisis faced by Dominican society and with the purpose of generating collective awareness about this challenge, Panorama media group and we are average people launched the national campaign “A single voice for mental health”.
The initiative, which is part of the strategic alliance between both platforms, seeks to become a call to joint action. In this sense, the organizers invited the media, state institutions, private sector, social organizations and citizenship in general to join this cause.
The campaign has the participation of the renowned specialists Alexandra Hichez, Héctor Guerrero Heredia and Ricardo Nievesand was presented within the framework of the World Mental Health Daythat is commemorated on October 10. It will be extended throughout the year with permanent actions such as educational videos, talks and medical operations in different provinces.

“We are convinced that mental health is an urgent issue that requires national unity. With this campaign we seek to raise awareness, break stigmas and mobilize all sectors of society. This is not another event, it is a movement for the emotional well -being of citizenship, ”said Medina.

“The country needs concrete and sustained actions. Mental health cannot remain a secondary themebut a priority in which each citizen, institution and company has a role to play, ”he said.
Government announces national strategy
During the act, the Minister of Public Health, Victor AtallahHe announced that the government prepares a national mental health strategy, and pointed out that this problem represents a national and worldwide crisis.
He assured that from the ministry we work to strengthen the institutional response, because mental health must be addressed like any other disease.
The launch, held at the Los Prados Club, included a conversation with doctors Hichez, Guerrero Heredia and Nieves, who analyzed the urgency of talking about the subject, the effects of stigma and the actions that each person can incorporate into their daily lives.
Testimonies of overcoming were also shared, which remembered the human dimension behind the statistics.
October, declared “Green Month”
As part of the campaign, October was declared as the green month, color that symbolizes mental health at a global level.
A call was called to private companies, public institutions and citizenship in general to illuminate their buildings, homes and spaces with this color as a symbol of national unity and visual reminder of the importance of the issue.
The communication pieces will be disseminated by the channels of both media groups, including television, radio, written press, digital portals and social networks, to reach diverse publics throughout the national territory.
