Héctor Manzanares, 38, was sent to trial after Judge Rolando Sanarrusia, of the Sixth Criminal Court of Hearings of Managua, admitted the evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office this past Monday, July 10. The trial was scheduled for this August 9.
Manzanares is accused of being the murderer of 19-year-old Janelieth Noryelis Peña, originally from Camoapa, who came to the capital in search of a job to pay for a computer technical degree.
The evidence offered includes the testimony of two caponera drivers from the area where the crime occurred. One of these testified that he heard the defendant offer the young woman a job at the Hotel Ticomo, located at km 8.5 of the southern highway. The second witness brought the victim to the scene the night of the crime.

The area chief of the Police also participated in the testimonies, who collected testimonies from women from the surrounding neighborhoods to whom Manzanares offered them work in the cleaning area, they indicated that they did not show up because of the time they made the appointments .
Janilieth’s relatives declared, after the facts, that she wanted to study pharmacy and that she was raised by an aunt who welcomed her with her two younger brothers, after her mother passed away.
The facts
The crime took place on April 10 at km 8.5 of the southern highway, at the Ticomo hotel. The deceased was summoned to this place to allegedly meet with the owners of the premises. The defendant told her to show up at 7:00 pm, the time the owners arrived at the place. It should be noted that the place has not offered its services for three years.
The investigation of the crime scene shows that the man, who worked as a security guard, took Peña to the back of the premises where he struggled with her. The indicated proceeded to suffocate her and steal her belongings. In the end, the man threw the young woman into a natural channel that is behind the place where the events occurred. It was unofficially known that he intended to sexually assault the young woman, but this fact was not confirmed during the presentation of evidence.

Manzanares, who worked as a security guard and had a permit to carry firearms, had a record for an attempted murder for which he was found guilty. This crime executed him in the department of Matagalpa in 2009. A judge changed the precautionary measure and granted him probation, for which he had to appear every Friday to sign.
