A priest is wounded with a machete in Santiago de Cuba to steal his motorcycle

The rector of the church of San Francisco in Santiago de Cuba, Eliosbel Pereira, was assaulted on Monday night to take away the motorcycle he was driving. The news was spread by several priests in social networks based on information from the archbishop of that diocese, Dionisio García Ibáñez.

According to the journalist Adrian Martinez Cadiz, the attacker, who was disguised as a doctor, gave the priest “a deep wound on his left hand” with a machete. For this reason, Pereira had to undergo surgery at the Santiago de Cuba provincial hospital, “in a complex operation that lasted several hours where the hand was reconstructed.”

It is the most recent chapter of the wave of robberies that the Island is suffering and from which the Catholic Church is not spared. This same weekend a crowd prevented the robbery of a gazelle brutally beating the alleged thief, at 23 and M, in the middle of the Havana neighborhood of El Vedado.

“The alleged perpetrators studied the area and then carried out the coup, acting mainly in the houses during the early morning hours”

An official profile, Mauro Torres’ Page, reported on Monday the arrest of “four alleged perpetrators who committed seven robberies with force, one robbery with violence and one theft” in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, in the capital. According to the post, “the alleged perpetrators studied the area and then carried out the coup, acting mainly in the homes during the early morning hours.”

Likewise, the authorities claimed to have recovered “an important group” of the stolen objects.

On April 29, the Church of San Charbel and Santo Tomás de Villanuevalocated in the Havana municipality of Playa, and a week before, there was an attempted robbery at the San Juan María Vianney Priestly House.

Two other thefts occurred on March 7 and April 5, respectively, in the Sacred Heart parish and the Jesús Obrero chapel, both located in El Vedado, both under the responsibility of the Dominican friar Lester Zayas, one of the priests. more critical of the regime.
