The Executive Deputy Director of the National Price Stabilization Institute (INESPRE), Benigno Encarnación, highlighted that the Dominican Republic has a President committed to the economic stability and food security of Dominicans, even in times of global crisis.
“The countries in conflict are the largest producers of raw material demanded by countries like ours; say agrochemicals, fertilizers, corn, wheat, sunflower seeds for the soybean oil factory,” said Encarnación.
The public official pointed out that one of the president’s best strategies has been to create a bill that frees 67 products from tariff taxes, with the aim of avoiding shortages and that 30% less be sold, so that it is more accessible to the population, especially the most vulnerable class.
Wheat is the most important raw material for bread, a primary food in our diet, especially in children; for which it authorizes the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to import 10 million dollars of said product.
“The foods that are obtained from these raw materials are those that have registered a higher price in the market; first tested by the pandemic, related to high freight costs and supply and demand wildcards in their prices, and now it is complicated by the Russia/Ukraine war,” he concluded.
