A few days before voting on November 23 in Magdalena, A new controversy sets off alarms. Documents filed with the Attorney General’s Office, the Comptroller’s Office, the Ministry of the Interior and the MOE indicate that the Sayco and Acinpro tax from the closing of the campaign of the candidate for Governor Margarita Guerra, carried out over the weekend in Ciénaga, would have been initially processed in the name of the Government Magdalena, which raised doubts about a possible use of public resources.
The Comptroller’s Office activated its Immediate Reaction Anti-Corruption Group and is carrying out inspections in the Ministry of Finance and the Departmental Treasury.
According to the agency, the complainants provided authorization from Sayco that appears in the name of the Government and reported alleged pressure on contractors and employees to attend political events, which would constitute improper participation in politics.
The control entity reviews documents, requests official information and analyzes whether there was possible damage to public assets.

However, the Sayco collector in Magdalena, Rosmery Jaraba Díaz clarified that the event license was issued in the name of an individual Rossana Andrea Rodríguez Quezada and that the initial reference to the Government was due to a “system error”, now corrected. Despite this, the controversy led organizations and observers to ask the Ministry of the Interior to appoint an ‘ad hoc’ governor to guarantee transparency in the elections.
The political atmosphere in the department is heating up in the final stretch towards the November 23 elections.
