On a small island and surrounded by the rough waters of the Surutú River (Buena Vista), that’s how it stayed a woman and her little son when they were trapped by the storm, she even took them away from her husband with whom they were crossing the river, but allowed the man to ask for help.
The rescuers managed to rescue the woman and her son alive, and put them safely. The woman confessed that she feared for the life of her son and hers, so she begged God to rescue them.
“I thought I was going to stay there, I prayed to God so that the water does not continue to rise,” said the frightened woman after her rescue. She recounted that she and her family were leaving the community of San Juan de Saguayo and intended to cross two rivers, but the sudden arrival of a storm separated them, leaving her and her son isolated from her.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 25, around noon, in an arm of the Surutú River, one of the tributaries in the municipality of Buena Vista.
“We have gone with a group of officials from the Mayor’s Office to the emergency call of the lady’s husband and luckily we were able to rescue them without problems,” reported the mayor of the municipality of Buena Vista, Teodoro González, who led the rescue efforts for the family.
He explained that the rains of the last few days have caused the rivers of the Ichilo province to increase their water levels, generating the danger of overflowing, which causes flooding, but also puts the lives of those who try to cross them at risk.
