Police officers arrested flagrant crime to a 17-year-old teenager, who was seized with several portions of presumably narcotic substances during an operation carried out in the El Caño sector, in the municipal district of La Ceiba del Salado, province Altagracia.
The minoridentified as CM, and without an identification document at the time of arrest, was intercepted by a team from the National Police while carrying out preventive work in the area.
During the search, the agents seized a GD brand handbag, white with green stripes, which contained inside two portions of a vegetable, presumably dope and a portion of a white powder of alleged cocaineboth wrapped in plastic sleeve cutouts of different colors and sizes.
The evidence was sent to the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) for your analysiswhile the detainee remains under the control of the Public Ministrywhich will determine the corresponding legal actions.
The Eastern region: areas with the greatest drug movement
The eastern provinces of the country —AltagraciaLa Romana, El Seibo, Hato Mayor and San Pedro de Macorís—recorded important seizures of drugs during the first quarter of 2025, as revealed by the January-March 2025 Statistical Bulletin of the Dominican Drug Observatory.
The report details that these provinces participated directly in the main seizures made by the DNCDwith the cocaine as the substance with the greatest presence in the region.
The province Altagracia was positioned among the five demarcations of the country with older seizures of cocaine during the first quarter of 2025, according to the report.
According to the data, the DNCD seized in this province 664,566.69 grams of cocaineequivalent to 19.96% of the national total, a figure that places it in the fifth place of seizures, along with Pedernales, Santiago, Peravia and Santo Domingo.
The document explains that these coastal provinces are used as strategic points for maritime transfer of illicit substances through fast boatswhich makes them high-risk areas for drug trafficking.
As for other substances, in Altagracia were confiscated 95,000.94 grams of dope (4.35% of the national total) and 299.48 grams of crack (4.04%), evidencing the diversity of drugs seized in the eastern region.
The Roman
The Roman figure with a strong presence of dopewhen reporting 256,391.99 grams seized, which represents 11.74% of the national total, being one of the six provinces with the most seizures of this substance.
They also registered 973.85 grams of cocaine and 303.45 grams of crack (4.09%), which reflects the incidence of microtraffic in the area.
In El Seibo, the DNCD reported 430 grams of dopewithout records of cocaine nor crack.
While in Greater Herd were confiscated 175.89 grams of cocaine358.94 grams of dope and 0.67 grams of crack.
Although the figures are lower than in neighboring provinces, the report highlights that seizures are linked to local operations of microtraffic in rural communities and urban.
San Pedro de Macoris
The province of San Pedro de Macoris did not record relevant seizures of cocaine neither dope during the January-March quarter, according to the statistical tables of the bulletin. Only a minimal seizure of 1.34 grams of dope.
