A micropropagation laboratory for native plants of the region is inaugurated in Coclé

The Cobre Panamá company inaugurated this Friday, December 2, the first in vitro culture laboratory for species of interest where the micropropagation technique will be used to ensure their conservation.

This laboratory, located at the Latin University of Panama in Penonomé, was enabled with an investment of more than $550,000 and will allow the conservation of species of interest, as well as the obtaining of healthy plants, not only in the areas near the mine, but also as well as the rest of the country.

The Environment Manager of Cobre Panamá, Alejandro Chambi, highlighted that the laboratory has a multidisciplinary team of microbiologists, plant biotechnologists, botanists, and biodiversity personnel who work together to rescue the flora that is the cornerstone of reforestation and restoration.

According to Cobre, as a knowledge dissemination component, an exhibition will be presented which is open to the public, which will explain what micropropagation is and its stages, as well as its contribution to environmental sustainability.
