A massacre in the municipality of Cartago, in the north of the department of Valle del Cauca, left five people dead and two more wounded.
The events occurred inside a house in the La Paz neighborhood, in the sector known as ‘El matadero’, in the 7th district of Cartago.
According to the official report, armed men arrived at a house where several people were conversing and, immediately, they fired indiscriminately.
Two women and three men lost their lives in the massacre. who were identified as José Germán Chica, 49, and José Fernando Chica, 57, his uncle. Similarly, two minors were injured.

According to the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz), so far this year, this would be the 36th massacre, so the alarms are set off at the departmental and national levels.
Faced with this fact, the Ombudsman’s Office issued Early Warning 004/22, of electoral risk, which emphasizes that Cartago is part of a strategic corridor that, together with the Coffee Region, several Residual Organized Armed Groups (GAOR) that dispute drug trafficking, weapons, among other local businesses.

After the multiple homicide and on the instructions of the Minister of Defense, an Extraordinary Security Council was held, with the presence of Major General Herman Alejandro Bustamante Jiménez, the director of the National Headquarters of the Police Service; Major General Fernando Murillo Orrego, Director of Criminal Investigation and INTERPOL (DIJÍN); the local mayor, Víctor Alfonso Álvarez; Colonel Nelson Dabey Parrado Mora, commander of the Valle del Cauca Police Department, as well as delegates from the Armed Forces, Municipal Ombudsman, CTI and the Ombudsman, to define the actions to be carried out in this area of the Valle del Cauca department.
