A man is provisionally arrested for trafficking in persons for the purpose of prostitution

Still a 30-year-old citizen, charged with the alleged commission of a crime against humanity, in the form of trafficking in persons for the purpose of prostitution, was ordered the personal precautionary measure of provisional detention.

In this guarantee control hearing, held this Tuesday, August 16, theto judge of guarantees of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama, Josefa Monfante, It stated that the personal precautionary measure of provisional detention was necessary and proportional to the nature of the act, coupled with procedural risks such as the risk of flight, affecting means of evidence, and danger to the community and to the victims.

Previously, the arrest of the accused was legalized and the formulation of charges made by the Public Ministry, which was represented by prosecutors Betzy Marciaga and Miguel Tuñón, was considered as presented; the defense of the accused was exercised by the private technical lawyers Vidal Pérez Herrera and Rúben Castrejo Camarena, while the defense of the victims was in charge of the attorney Alexa Castro.

In this hearing, the technical defense presented an appeal, which was scheduled for August 23 of the current year, at 3:30 in the afternoon, before the Superior Court of Appeals located in Plaza Fortuna.

This criminal case began on July 5 of the current year, when, through information from a collaborating source, the security forces launched the operation called “Galaxy”, with which they managed to rescue six women victims of human trafficking.
