Protection groups of Córdoba renewed this Wednesday the claim to modify the national law 14,346 so that effective prison sentences are applied to those who mistreat animals, after denouncing before the Justice a man from the town of Bell Ville for stealing greyhounds, do not feed them until they are malnourished and feed them to your pitbull dog
César Olivera, member of the protectionist group “Cuatro Patas” from Bell Villeaffirmed that “unfortunately in Argentina we have a law that sees the animal as an object and no one goes to jail for mistreatment” and, for that reason, raised the need to modify the legislation so that “exemplary sanctions and effective imprisonment” are implemented. .
The groups of “Cuatro Patas” and “Unidos por 4 patitas” promoted in the last week a criminal complaint against Luciano Manías, an employee of Correo Argentino of that Cordovan city of the provincial southeast, whom the neighbors accuse of stealing dogs, not feeding them and then giving them to their pet to kill them.
“He would starve them until they were malnourished and hand them over to his pit bull. It is an outrageous, unacceptable act of cruelty that has to be punished with effective imprisonment”, Olivera considered in statements to Télam and denounced that due to his protectionist action he constantly receives “insults and threats”, mainly from those who carry out greyhound racing who are illegal.
Also, he said that Manías had already been denounced by neighbors on several occasions and that on this occasion the judicial action could be achieved due to the “convincing evidence” of the videos that went ‘viral’ on social networks.
The cause for animal abuse is instructed in the Functional Instruction Unit (UFI), as reported.
Olivera stated that this Tuesday the residents of Bell Ville mobilized in front of the Correo Argentino office to repudiate the actions of the employee of that agency.
He also pointed out that signatures are being gathered to present to the company authorities with the aim of adopting punitive measures against the accused, a management that will also be carried out before the local mayor, Carlos Briner.
Olivera urged the country’s protectionist organizations and national legislators to move forward with a modification of law 14,346, in force since 1954and that punishes with imprisonment from fifteen days to one year “those who inflict ill-treatment or make victims of acts of cruelty to animals”, with the aim of making this sanction effective.
