This Saturday afternoon a person died after a piece of the facade of the building located on Avenida de los Mártires, in Reparto Vigía, Camagüey, fell on him. According to the independent journalist, José Luis Tan Estrada, the victim is a man who was under the building at the time of the collapse, although his identity is still unknown.
Through Facebook, the communicator expressed his discomfort, “now we will see what the government of Camagüey says. What have they done with all the denunciations of the bad state of the constructions that no longer hold up anymore?” He specified that the “old building has been in danger of collapsing for years.”
“There is a picnic area and an ice cream sales point under there” where many people gather. “That is visible to all and nothing has ever been done,” Tan Estrada stressed. “For months I have been alerting on social networks the danger of collapse that currently exists there.”
It is not the only complaint, this same building was reported in November 2022 by Ricardo Gomez Perez. On that occasion, he pointed out the “danger and threat to the hundreds of people who daily walk along the sidewalk” under the building. The report was accompanied by several images of the deterioration of the balconies and the facade.
“Do we have to wait for a heavy fragment from up there to fall and kill a person, who could be a child or an old man?” he questioned. Only three months have passed since Gómez Pérez warned of the danger and the death of a person was registered.
Gómez recalled the tragedy due to the neglect of the authorities in the Yaba. “A few years ago there was a tree, several times it was reported because of the danger it had. They never did anything, until one day it unfortunately fell and killed a woman and I think a girl too.”
José Luis Tan Estrada recalled that through his social networks he has denounced the danger represented by the conditions in which many buildings are found in the city of Camagüey and their imminent collapse.
“Faced with this problem, the authorities of the province prefer to invest and spend resources fixing hotels, squares and parks, such as Las Cubanitas, the famous Cultural Walk and other nonsense that are not really priorities.”
