The departmental secretary of Agricultural Development and Food Safety, Álvaro Peralta, reported this Monday that in the municipality of Betanzos the loss of more than twenty animals due to lightning was lamented.

“A report has been received that in the municipality of Betanzos, in the community of Salvatierra, an electric shock, a lightning strike, has struck, affecting 24 heads of goats and sheep,” the authority said.

“The municipality is coordinated with Civil Defense so that, through them, some type of help and support can be obtained for this family,” he added.

In addition to the heavy rains reported in the region, the secretary reported that aftershocks were also felt in the southwest of Potosí. Their epicenter would have been in northern Argentina with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale.

Peralta announced that this Wednesday and Thursday “heavy rains” are expected in the south and “isolated showers with the probability of snowfall” in places that are above 4,200 meters above sea level. While in the center and north of Potosí there will be “intense rains” between Thursday and Friday.

“We want to ask from the Government of Potosí that people take the necessary precautions, that they avoid crossing the rivers in the face of rising flows. In the same way, the carriers, to check if the river is full,” he insisted.
