A guarantee judge issued a prison sentence for Darwin Beltrán, accused of the murder of his two children in the Las Ferias neighborhood, Bogotá. The Prosecutor’s Office presented evidence indicating that Beltrán committed the crime on October 28, after observing his partner walking with another person towards their home in Engativá.

Although he admitted the crime of his two little ones, ages 4 and 7, he denied the accusations made against him. A Colombian guarantee control judge made the decision to imprison him as the main suspect in the children’s death, which occurred on Monday, October 28 in the Las Ferias neighborhood.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the evidence presented shows the “imminent danger” represented by Beltrán, accused of killing Santy Steban Beltrán Ramírez and Susan Beltrán Ramírez in their home in western Bogotá.
The investigating body indicated that on October 28, the accused observed his partner returning home and, allegedly, violently entered the property, attacking his children with a knife.
The community took justice into its own hands
Upon arriving at the scene, the mother of the minors was left in a state of shock, while the neighbors tried to help the children, but unfortunately they no longer had vital signs.
The alleged murderer was saved from the community’s major lynching; in just minutes the National Police quickly went to the scene. Before the officers arrived, the enraged neighbors took Beltrán out onto the street and beat him.
The Prosecutor’s Office initially indicated that it would charge him with the crimes of aggravated homicide and aggravated feminicide. However, in the proceedings he only accused him of the first of the aforementioned crimes.
During the hearings, he was charged with the crime of aggravated homicide, although he did not accept the charges. Concerned about possible repetitions of violent acts, a judge decided to impose a security measure on him in a penitentiary center.
Currently, Darwin Beltrán is in an Immediate Reaction Unit (URI) waiting for the hearing that will define his legal situation and how he will face the judicial process.
