A heart attack truncates the American dream of a Cuban woman on a bus in Mexico

“They put oxygen on him, but he didn’t resist,” he revealed to 14ymedio a source about the death of the Cuban Julia Lucía Flores García. The woman was in seat 1 of a bus that left Tapachula on May 17 and was destined for Mexico City on its way to the United States. “It was a heart attack.”

According to the witness, “around the time of the road he began to feel bad and the driver asked for support on the radio.” The closest place was the Echegaray booth, in the community of Pijijiapan in Chiapas. There they told the driver that there was no paramedic, so he went to the terminal of the Cristóbal Colón bus company in the same town and called 911.

In the terminal, elements of Civil Protection gave him support, but after a few minutes his death was confirmed. “I never thought that by going in search of your happiness, of being with your family, you left this world. My beautiful Cuban, I will always remember you,” user Andrea Corneo posted on her Facebook account.

From the information shared on social networks, it is known that Flores spent time in Chile and had planned to reunite with his family on US soil. The day of the event, municipal police officers filed a report, took video of the unit, but the National Institute of Migration in Chiapas was not aware of these details, as confirmed by this newspaper.

It also transpired that a visitor’s visa was found among Flores’ belongings, which allowed him free transit through the country. The body was transferred to the forensic medical service.

The transit of Cubans through Mexico has reached record numbers. Data from the Office of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) published this Tuesday, indicate that in the month of April the arrest of 35,049 Cubans was registered. In total, the US has arrested 234,088 irregular migrants on the US southern border, 5.4% more than in the previous month.

Hundreds of Cubans cross daily through the border point between Piedras Negras and Eagles Pass, despite the Mirror Operation implemented in April by the governments of Coahuila and Texas. The deployment of federal agentsof the National Guard and municipal police on the Mexican side has been insufficient to counteract the passage through the Rio Grande.

On the American side, it has been of little use. laying barbed wire at the flow limits. This Friday a group of Cubans and Nicaraguans passed through the Rio Grande, according to a posted video for Impact Vision News.

Although the arrests continue in several states. On Thursday, Immigration arrested 20 Cubans who were hiding along with eight other migrants at the Hotel España, located in the state of San Luis Potosí.

Until this Friday, the migratory situation of the group remains unresolved, although some of them presented visitor visas.
