MIAMI, United States. – The Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) of Cuba confirmed this Saturday the fourth case of monkeypox diagnosed on the island.
This is a 26-year-old Cuban citizen residing in the province of Cienfuegos, a health worker, who had direct contact with the third case of monkeypox or monkeypox diagnosed in Cuba.
According to the MINSAP note, the patient began with skin lesions that suggested the disease on September 30. After the appearance of the first symptoms, the National Reference Laboratory of the Pedro Kouri Institute (IPK) confirmed the diagnosis, this Saturday.
The patient was in strict isolation because he was a direct contact of a previously confirmed case, so he had no contacts of his own.
So far, according to the MINSAP, he is progressing favorably and without complications.
Meanwhile, the rest of the contacts of the third case of monkeypox diagnosed on the Island remain asymptomatic on the eighth day of surveillance.
On Friday, September 23, the MINSAP confirmed the third case of the monkey in national territory.
According to that agency, the third infected patient is a 27-year-old Cuban citizen residing in the province of Cienfuegos.
The report indicates that the contagion occurred through contact with a Cuban citizen residing in the United States, who presented suspicious symptoms of the disease.
The first case of monkeypox in Cuba was registered on August 20. The infected person was a man of Italian nationality who had arrived in Cuba as a tourist five days earlier.
The patient would die on August 22 due to sepsis due to bronchopneumonia to an unspecified germ and multiple organ damage.
The second case of monkeypox recorded on the island was a 60-year-old Cuban resident in the United States who arrived in the country on August 26 from Miami and reported no health problems during the control carried out at the international airport in Havana.
