Santo Domingo.-A Haitian national identified as Chin Laduse was arrested by members of the Army of the Dominican Republic, after confessing his responsibility in the death of several women found decapitated in the vicinity of the Macasía River, in the province of Elías Piña.
As explained by the Ministry of Defense, the foreigner himself told the members of the patrol that he was hiding for fear of reprisals, because in his country of origin he is accused of being linked to criminal acts related to the death of several women, whose bodies were found decapitated in the bed of the Macasía River.
The discovery of at least five bodies of decapitated women in the community of Macasía, Elías Piña province, has spread fear among residents of the border area, who have chosen to avoid approaching the river that divides the Dominican Republic and Haiti out of fear.
According to statements by Ludovino Contreras, a community member and resident of Comendador, the bodies have been located in different points near the Macasía River, a tributary that originates in Hondo Valle and flows into the aforementioned border community.
Contreras explained that the findings occurred over a period of approximately one month, during which several bodies were found both within the river and in nearby areas.
He indicated that the first body was located directly in the river, while the second appeared in a ravine, about 10 meters from the tributary, already on the Dominican side.
According to the community, in at least two of the first cases the bodies were found without heads, and these appeared days later in nearby areas, located by dogs.
He also pointed out that the victims are presumed to be Haitian women, allegedly deceived by coyotes, which opens the possibility that the events are linked to undocumented trafficking networks.
“We investigated thoroughly and everything indicates that they were Haitians. They were women who were deceived,” said Contreras Pérez.
The community maintained that the number of victims could be higher, since there are reports of other bodies with similar characteristics found on the Haitian side, although these have not been officially confirmed by the Dominican authorities.
The statement from the Ministry of Defense indicates that, as a result of these accusations, a mob had set fire to the detainee’s home in Haiti.
After their arrest, both the foreigner and a minor he identified as his son, were transferred under military custody to the ERD’s La Estrelleta Fortress, where they were placed at the disposal of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) for biometric registration purposes and rigorous procedures, prior to their delivery to the Haitian National Police (PNH), in accordance with binational cooperation protocols.
The Ministry of Defense reiterated that these actions are part of the permanent surveillance, control and security operations carried out by the Armed Forces.
