The passion for football and love for a team can unite people in unimaginable ways, but on this occasion, a tragedy enlutted the fans of Tolima Sports. Sergio López and Jeison Bastos Ramos, two young followers of the ‘Pijao’ team, died in a traffic accident in the early hours of Saturday, February 1, 2025, when they returned home after supporting their club.

The unfortunate event occurred in the Alto de las Rosas sector, on the road that connects Bogotá with Girardot and Ibagué. The two young people were traveling on a motorcycle when they were impacted by a tractocamión. Jeison Bastos died immediately due to the impact, while Sergio López lost his life shortly after because of the seriousness of his wounds.
Both returned home after having been in the match that their team played against Santa Fe on January 31.
An emotional goodbye: the loyalty of his pet marked the farewell of a Tolima fan
On Wednesday, February 5, Sergio López’s funeral was held in Roncesvalles, Tolima, where family, friends and community fired him with deep pain.
During the funeral, a moving moment stole attention: his pet, in an act of love and fidelity, was distressed when trying to approach the coffin. Despite the efforts of a woman to calm him, the canine groaned and ladled insistently, reflecting his sadness for his owner’s departure.
The emotional episode was recorded on video and quickly went viral on social networks, generating reactions of sadness and empathy among Internet users.
For its part, the municipal mayor of Roncesvalles decreed three days of mourning in honor of Sergio López. The fan was a very dear young man in the community, and his death represents a great loss for the municipality.
On its coffin a flag of Tolima Sports rested, the team that saw him celebrate the titles of 2003-2, 2018-1 and 2021-1, and which he accompanied until his last day. The tragedy leaves an immense emptiness in their loved ones and in the fans of the team, who remember their passion and unwavering commitment.
