A five-year-old girl dies due to a landslide in Old Havana

MIAMI, United States. – The landslide happened this monday in Old Havana it already leaves its first victim: it is Ismary Orozco Castellanos, a five-year-old girl who was in the place at the time of the incident.

The news, already circulating in official media of the Island, was shared on social networks by the Cuban leader, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

“We deeply regret the death of the girl Ismary Orozco in a collapse that occurred in Old Havana. Reach her parents and family our condolences and accompaniment in these difficult hours. The report of Council of the Administration of Old Havana indicates that two other adult women rescued from the building located at No 466 / Egido and Villegas receive medical attention at the Calixto García Hospital, while another minor is at the Juan Manuel Márquez Hospital.

That body indicated that the authorities of the Communist Party and the Government in the province appeared at both hospitals to inquire about the care and condition of the affected patients.

Monday’s collapse occurred shortly after seven in the morning when a roof slab in one room of the three-story building affected the room below.

Yaquelín Rodríguez Triana, a neighbor of the multifamily building, revealed that the origin of the tragedy was the collapse of one of the sections of the second floor, which had been propped up for three years.

“This has been declared inevitable for years, but nobody wants to go to a shelter because they know that they will never have a home again,” added the woman.
