Doctor exposes the drama of many residents in Colombia
Diana Nossaa doctor by profession, recorded a video on social media to explain that just like Catalina, many medical students or those who are studying a specialization suffer from harassment, bullying or other types of mistreatment, both from superiors and from other higher-ranking residents: “This is a chain. Like when a father abuses his son and the son becomes an abuser.”
The doctor said that she does not regret any of the times that they gave me a punishment shift for having answered back to a resident or a professor as a result of the lack of respect and the humiliation to which they often subjected her.
«I remember that I could go up to three days in a row without sleeping because they would punish me and they would set up punishment shifts on top of each other for things as simple as going to the bathroom, going to the bathroom in a situation where we were on the emergency shift a group of 5 or 6 interns where everything was already ready, the medical records were already ready and it was just a matter of waiting for the resident to introduce them to the patients and in that time I would go to the bathroom and come back and that is why they would punish me or humiliate me in front of everyone,» the young woman expressed the drama that she suffered at the time.
He delved deeper into the problem and concluded that doctors who suffer such humiliation pass this treatment on to their patients: “I have seen many doctors who accept jobs with abusive bosses and the response is to lower their heads and remain silent… because we believe that allowing ourselves to be mistreated as if we were just another person is normal.”
“The solution is not to remain silent. Sometimes finding peace requires war.” he explained.
«Money comes in many ways, not just from doing a medical specialization»was Rossa’s underlying reflection on the situation faced by many professionals in the country.
