Jorge Carmona, defender of prison rights, denounced that A man deprived of his liberty received a severe beating while he was at the La Candelaria Police Station (Medellín), which caused serious injuries to his body.
According to the victim, He had been detained in that police station for 20 days when he was beaten in the head and back, situation that generated a fracture in the sixth vertebra of the spine that left him paraplegic.

The detainee, who did not want to reveal his identity for security reasons, reported that “they knocked me down from a height of 1.80 meters from the hammock, hitting my head and back and causing a fracture in the sixth vertebra of my spine. which currently has me with paraplegia. So far the doctors have not given a complete opinion because I need an evaluation with the neurologist due to the limited resources that the hospital or the EPS have”.
He added that In the cells of the Police station there is inhuman treatment and torture, by other prisoners of liberty who are detained there.

Jorge Carmona reiterated his call to the National Government and the local and departmental authorities to investigate the situation in that Police station, given the alleged violation of Human Rights.
He concluded that he will institute a protection action so that a judge decides whether that Police station should continue providing its services or not and stated that Although the uniformed men who are there are not the aggressors, they would be responsible for what happens in this place.
