Today, April 17, 2025, six years have passed since the death of Alan Gabriel Ludwig García Pérezwho was President of the Republic of Peru in two non-consecutive periods (1985-1990 and 2006-2011).
The news of his death, which occurred on April 17, 2019 in tragic circumstances at his home in Lima, shocked the country. Garcia made the decision to take their lives at the time the authorities were preparing to stop him within the framework of an investigation for alleged acts of corruption related to the Odebrecht case.
Alan García Pérez, twice president of Peru, during his second term (2006-2011), promoted emblematic works such as the remodeling of the emblematic schools, the construction of the Secondary School President of Peru and infrastructure projects such as the interoceanic highway and the Chaglla hydroelectric plant.
However, his legacy was also tarnished by tax investigations related to alleged acts of corruption. The Odebrecht case, which shook several countries in Latin America, involved Garcia in alleged irregularities linked to the electric train and other projects. Although he categorically denied the accusations, his life ended tragically on April 17, 2019, when he decided to take his life when facing an arrest warrant.
Garcia’s departure left a vacuum in the Peruvian APRA party (APRA), an organization he led. His oratory capacity and his ability to connect with people made him a political reference.
