A Cuban minor traveling alone is arrested in Mexico

MIAMI, United States.- The Municipal Police of Cancún, in Mexico, arrested this Friday a minor of Cuban nationality who was traveling alone through the Aztec nation, who was made available to the Office of Comprehensive Family Development (DIF).

The minor was part of a group of eight Cuban migrants, six adults and two children, one of them the aforementioned boy, who were detained by the authorities of the Aztec nation.

According to a note from Radio Formula QRthe Cubans were being guarded by two Mexicans, who after the arrest were handed over to the Attorney General’s Office.

Likewise, according to the disclosed information, the rescued Cubans were placed at the disposal of the National Migration Institute (INM).

The migration crisis on the island still has thousands of Cuban nationals crossing Central America and then Mexico with the aim of reaching the United States.

That same Friday, the National Guard of Mexico, Division of Roads, detained 13 Cubans undocumented immigrants traveling in hiding in the bed of a truck. The events occurred at a security point located at kilometer five of the highway that connects Huajuapan, Oaxaca and the capital of said state.

The 13 Cubans, who were traveling hidden in a red Chevrolet truck, were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) for the corresponding investigations.

The day before, Thursday, April 14, two Cubans, including a minor, were rescued by the Beta Group of the National Migration Institute (INM) of Mexico, after they were caught in the middle of the current of the Rio Grande when they tried to cross into the United States.

According to a report by MVS Noticias, immigration agents from the representative office of Ciudad Acuña, in the State of Coahuila, were notified that a group of people were stranded in the middle of the river.

The authorities managed to rescue a woman, a Cuban national, and her minor son, who were transferred to the mainland on the Mexican side.

Last March, more than 32,000 Cubans arrived at the southern border of the United States, according to a report by The Washington Post.
