Arapata is a community that is part of the municipality of Coripata, in the North Yungas province of La Paz. This morning she was shaken by an event that had never happened before, an assault perpetrated against a country couplebut cocaleros and their son. Of that fact one of the assailants was killedwhile the victim and her son are hospitalized in La Paz.
According to the report from the Yungas Noticias portal, one of the assailants was a boy who arrived from Santa Cruz at the end of September 2022 and he managed to work with the couple in the treatment of coca, he was in that job for five months and in April he left the community. The victim’s husband identified him at the time of the assault and at the threat against his son he had to hand over his life savings, Bs 10,000.
The victims were Gabriel Hilaya and his wife Elizabeth Villca, both known producers in the area for years. “In these parts, people don’t trust banks much and keep your money in your homes or in houses where relatives offer security”, recounted one of the community members when describing the possible reasons for the assault.
Arapata is located 124 kilometers from the city of La Paz, on a journey that lasts at least six hours by land, which is the distance that Mrs. Villca had to travel aboard an ambulance from the municipality of Coripata.

The family and the community immediately launched a solidarity campaign for the life of Elizabeth Villca, because they suppose that the expenses for its recovery will be expensive, because they hit him on the head with a machete. She is hospitalized in La Paz and is in a coma.
