“A communist at heart who would not have remained silent”: this is how his son remembers the actor Enrique Molina

MIAMI, United States. – Cuban musician Pavel Molina Ruiz He stated this Monday on Facebook that his father, the renowned actor Enrique Molina, “never, but never” asked him to moderate his criticism of the Cuban Government, despite the fact that the interpreter himself was “a communist at heart” and defended socialism “with all his soul.”

However, he immediately marked ideological distance: “I, on the contrary, defend the capitalist system because I believe it is the most fair to live among millions of people and manage the sweat and sacrifice of human beings well.”

In his publication, the musician stressed that political differences never affected the relationship between him and his father. “We loved each other without limits, without boundaries of anything. We gave our lives for each other, despite our different beliefs. We still love each other, wherever we are,” he said.

He also pointed out that, although they frequently argued about politics, they did so “from a healthy perspective”, without “disrespecting” each other.

“My Father, Enrique Molina, never, but never asked me to lower my voice in my moments of maximum brilliance criticizing the Government. Without caring that the screams came from the same roof where he lived,” he wrote. “And beyond the soul that dared to tell my father that your son this or your son that,” he added.

According to Molina Ruiz, his father also maintained a critical stance within official cultural institutions. “My Father, as communist as he was, would stop at the UNEAC or the Ministry of Culture or wherever to sing his praises to malanga. Without fear,” he said.

In the same text he maintained that the actor “died without having known even for a minute what it feels like to be a bully of someone or a boss.”

“When the events of July 11 [de 2021]my father had just had surgery for a pacemaker and a month later he got sick with COVID and you already know the rest“, he wrote. “If it had not been for these two misfortunes, first the heart and then COVID, my father would have been outside the Ministry of Culture, perhaps not shouting against the Government (…), but he would have been by the people’s side, at least not leaving them.[s] alone to all those brave artists who spoke out outside the Ministry.”

He also added: “Without a doubt I would not have supported the imprisonments and thousands of other injustices that occurred in those days.”

“MY FATHER, without a doubt,” he stressed, “would not have remained silent like hundreds of thousands of people who are as guilty as whoever governs Cuba,” he said.

Born on October 31, 1943 in the municipality of Bauta, former province of Havana, Molina stood out for his extensive career in film, theater and television. In the popular imagination his masterful performances still survive in dramatized spaces on Cuban Television such as rough land, under the same sun, The other corner and In silence it had to be.

Molina also appeared in films such as A girlfriend for David, Hello Hemingway, Cuba neighborhood, The horn of plenty and The Benny.
