The Public Ministry reported that Luis Eduardo Garzón, a Colombian national, was deprived of liberty; for his alleged responsibility in the illicit manufacture of 10,200 counterfeit US dollars.
The event occurred on November 22 by officials of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) at the Peracal Citizen Service Point; located in the Bolívar municipality of the Táchira state, reported a press release from the public body.
According to the investigation, during the aforementioned date GNB officials who were carrying out patrol work in the aforementioned area when they gave the order to stop a public transport unit that was heading towards San Cristóbal; in order to search passengers and their respective luggage.
During the inspection of Garzón’s belongings, a total of 190 strips of plain paper with the exact diameter of a 100 US dollar bill were found inside a backpack; in addition to a wad of counterfeit bills of the same denomination that left a total of 10,200 counterfeit dollars.
As a result of the findings, the man was apprehended in flagrante delicto to be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry and initiate the respective criminal process.
During the presentation hearing, the 33rd Prosecutor’s Office of Táchira charged Garzón with the alleged commission of illicit coin manufacturing.
Once the elements of conviction presented by the prosecutor’s representation had been evaluated, the 3rd Control Court in that Andean entity issued the aforementioned deprivation of liberty against the accused and ordered his temporary confinement in Detachment 212 of the GNB; located in San Antonio del Táchira.
In turn, it was agreed with the aforementioned judicial agency to extract the contents of two phones that were seized during the procedure; in order to collect more elements of criminalistic interest.
