A Colombian deprived of liberty for trafficking in arms and ammunition

Arrested for spanking a teenager

The Public Ministry reported that Rafael Enrique Ospino Núñez (65), of Colombian nationality, was deprived of liberty for his alleged responsibility in the illicit trafficking of weapons and ammunition.

The event took place on October 3 on a farm in the Palmarito sector of the José Ramón Yépez parish, belonging to the Jesús Enrique Lossada municipality of Zulia state, according to a press release from the public body.

That day, officials from the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) who were patrolling in the area observed Ospino Núñez with a suspicious attitude inside a makeshift home.

At the site, the military commission found a total of five shotguns, four machetes, 17 shotgun cartridges and 212 shells of different calibers. Likewise, he located a thimble to measure gunpowder refill, three cartridge propellant blocks; several military uniforms and a container containing gunpowder.

According to the preliminary investigation, Ospino Núñez would have dedicated himself to the illegal manufacture of ammunition. Consequently, and as a result of the findings; He was apprehended in flagrante delicto and placed under the command of the Public Ministry.

At the presentation hearing, the 48th Prosecutor’s Office of Zulia charged Ospino Núñez with the alleged commission of arms and ammunition trafficking, association and illicit manufacture of ammunition.

Once the elements of conviction presented by the prosecutor’s representation had been evaluated, the 6th Control Court of Zulia issued the measure of deprivation of liberty against Ospino Núñez, and ordered his temporary confinement at the headquarters of the GNB of that federal entity.
