A call for caution marks the beginning of the COE’s Christmas operation

A call for caution marks the beginning of the COE's Christmas operation

Santo Domingo.-The Emergency Operations Center (COE) yesterday launched the first phase of the “Awareness for Life, Christmas and New Year 2025” operation, which aims to prevent fatal incidents.

General Juan Manuel Méndez, director of the COE and the Directorate of Out-of-Hospital Emergency Services (DAEH), indicated that this first phase will end on Thursday, December 25 at 6:00 pm

“Like every year, the operation has the purpose of preventing incidents and responding to emergencies that citizens who travel to the interior of the country to spend Christmas with their families may have,” said Méndez.

The collaborators
He explained that on this occasion 48,470 collaborators from first response organizations are participating, as well as volunteers, who will now be in the 1,301 aid stations enabled for the operation.

In addition, there are about 250 ambulances, including 44 vehicular transportation teams and 14 vehicular rescue units, but there are also 21 mobile workshops and two pre-hospital care centers that have been prepared for the holiday.

He said that by order of President Luis Abinader, efforts are being made to prevent incidents, while appealing to citizen conscience to avoid them.

“We need the help of every Dominican. Citizen awareness will play the most important role in this operation, which is why I insist that the population drive with caution so that everyone reaches their destination and spends a peaceful and safe Christmas without bringing anguish and mourning to families, becoming fatal figures,” he said.

Greater flow of people
At this time of year, the flow of people traveling from one place to another to spend the holidays with their families usually increases, which increases the risk of accidents.

Meanwhile, Pascual Cruz, head of the General Directorate of Traffic and Transportation Security (Digesett), recalled that life is the supreme value that they must protect, so they will ensure that objective.

Peace Guarantee

— National Police
The director of the National Police, Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, said that the entity began the Christmas operation with a Peace Guarantee 2.0 on December 3, with some 22 thousand agents who will join the operation.

Digesett will deploy two thousand agents
Road safety. The director of the Digesett, Pascual Cruz, stressed that they have 2,286 agents on the roads located at strategic points where more accidents regularly occur, in addition to 447 motorcycles, 140 vans, 34 cranes, 7 trucks and two tractors.

Among the actions that will be carried out is the reinforcement of the presence of agents, regularization of traffic on main roads, highways and highways throughout the country.

Likewise, inspection for speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to use a protective helmet, seat belt, as well as failure to respect traffic signs and red lights.
