An Argentine died and twelve other people of the same nationality were hospitalized in Punta Cana as a result of a rollover that occurred this Thursday in a group of excursions in which 40 Argentine, Chilean and Brazilian tourists traveled, and the Foreign Ministry informed that it assists the citizens involved in the accident.

Dominican sources from the ongoing investigation told Télam that Of the 12 Argentines hospitalized, one woman had her arm amputated, another has a skull fracture, a third is in serious condition, and the rest are in stable condition..

The sources highlighted that the Argentine consul in the Dominican Republic, Javier Outumuro, like the ambassador Nora Capello “They are in permanent contact with family members and go from one hospital to another” to find out the status of the wounded.

The spokesmen specified that they were trying to establish the identity of the deceased woman. The 12 hospitalized Argentines remain distributed in three hospitals.

The injured bus was heading to the town of Bayahíbe, so that the tourists would transfer by ferry to Saona Island.

According to the RT agency, the accident occurred at the Domingo Maíz-Miches intersection, on the Eastern Tourist Boulevard of the Punta Cana-Miches highway, an area widely visited by tourists, local media reported. The bus belongs to the transport company, Suero Servi-Bus.

According to what was reported, the confirmed identity of the deceased Argentine citizen has not yet emerged because the body has not yet been identified by her husband, who is hospitalized as a result of the accident.

Foreign Ministry spokesmen reported that “The Embassy is in contact with relatives of the deceased citizen and the hospitalized nationals, as well as with the three medical centers involved and local authorities”.

And they added that “not all citizens have been able to be identified because they do not have personal documentation when boarding the bus.”

The Dominican Government ordered the action of a Civil Defense Cabinet that is in charge of the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Patricia Mejía.

David Collado, the Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, expressed through his Twitter account that his country feels “Sad and dismayed by the unfortunate accident of the bus occupied by foreigners, which occurred this morning. We visited the different hospitals where they were transferred to offer our full support and solidarity at this difficult time.”

In another tweet, he stated that “no effort will be spared to save lives and all necessary measures are being taken.”

Finally, he warned that “shortly, the relevant authorities will offer the due report, meanwhile we ask the media and the population to be cautious with the information that is shared out of respect for the families and those involved.”
