A book written to highlight the weaknesses of a society and

With his usual pedagogical vocation and his thorough style, Professor Juan Bosch In his book “Crisis of Democracy of America in the Dominican Republic”, written from his exile in Puerto Rico in 1964, he crumbles the reality of the country, starting not from his sympathies or political antipathies, but of the Dominican social (class) social composition, showing that, long before he declared Marxist, at the beginning of the 70s of the last century, the teacher already dominated and used in his analysis the Marxist method and Categories of the materialist conception of history.

The first ten chapters of this publication, considered by former president Leonel Fernández as one the most influential books about the national political event, becoming the first best seller (better sold) of the modern era in the Dominican Republic, they enter the state in which the country was the death of Trujillo; The characteristics of the Dominican Revolutionary Party, its proposals and its central purpose of educating and raising awareness among the masses about the leading role that are called to play in the life of the nation, solving their ills.

This is explained by the philosopher, historian, essayist and Cuban-Dominican novelist, Elíades Ignacio Acosta, in the introduction of the book “Juan Bosch between the coup d’etat and the revolution”, of the Juan Bosch Foundation, as part of the commemoration of the 61th anniversary of this book and the ephemeris of the 60 years of the April Revolution.

His presentation took place in a reflection panel on the validity of this work, in which in addition to Acosta Matos, social academics and researchers Rafael Julián, lawyer and anthropologist participated; Pablo Maríñez, sociologist and professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and Santiago Castro Ventura, historian, doctor and professor at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).
It is not a memoir …

For Bosch this is not a memoir, and therefore we must not look for a history of the events that made it possible to establish in the Dominican Republic a government of popular election and that ended with the overthrow of their government through military coup, at seven months of having taken power. “This book has been written to highlight the eyes of Dominicans and Latin American the weaknesses of a society (the Dominican, a reflection of Latin American society) whose development has been hindered by opposite forces to its progress. As a result of those weaknesses, democracy created by the people, was also intrinsically weak and could not deal with its traditional enemies,” says Elíes Acosta.

The most transcendental

For the also academic researcher of the Juan Bosch Foundation, “Crisis of Democracy of America in the Dominican Republic” belongs to this tradition of works that connects cause-effect-causa without which the background of its appearance is not explained, or the consequences it contributed to unleashed.

That is precisely what shows the unusual fact for a political book of having had four editions in Spanish in just a few months, between November 1964 until February 1965, with more than 29,000 copies sold and have been translated into three languages, English (three editions), Portuguese and French, immediately.

“Today Bosch could not have written a book like that of 1964, but we are sure that an even more bright, deep and visionary would write, with its clean, simple and enjoyable prose.

Reflection of the source

The last words of this book are the omen of what it would be doing, feeling and thinking in our day, when the government that the Dominican people had chosen on December 20, 1962, “the dagger entered Dominican flesh and its tip was overthrown and its tip went to nail to the heart of America, because America is multiple and it is, however, one, and everything that has happened in an American country, has happened in others. History, and history is not only the story of what has already happened, but also a mirror of what is going to happen, ”illustrates Dr. Acosta Matos.
