The book Alice Alonso. The diva. Maria Callas in Memoriamby Pedro Simón Martínez, researcher, critic and founder of the Museo Nacional de la Danza, will be presented this month at the Modern Art Center from Madrid.
The work deals with “La Diva”, an “exceptional choreographic creation by Alberto Méndez, which constitutes an approximation through dance to the art of the famous singer María Callas, whose Centenary is being celebrated this year”.
According to critics, the ballet became one of the greatest characters in Alice Alonsonot only in the last stage of her career, but throughout her career as a dancer.
With choreography by Méndez, music by Félix Guerrero based on famous operatic themes and designs by Salvador Fernández, it constitutes a deep tribute to one of the most famous figures in the history of that art, according to the Cuban National Ballet (BNC). in its Web.
40 years after its premiere, the trajectory and artistic legacy of this ballet is now reflected in the pages of this bilingual compendium (Spanish and English) by Pedro Simón.
The title, with more than 200 pages, presents a splendid documentary iconography, with high-quality images belonging to photographers of diverse origins.
The presentation will be on Wednesday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m., at the Centro de Arte Moderno, located at Calle de Galileo No. 52, Madrid.
It is sponsored by the Alicia Alonso Foundation and will be in charge of Professor Carmen Caffarel, an intellectual linked to different expressions of the arts, according to a press release by José Ramón Rodríguez Neyra, a BNC journalist.
