The Senate knows a project of law that would seek to elevate to the category of province to the municipality of Las Matas de Farfánwhich currently belongs to San Juan. If successful, it would be number 32 in the country and would be called Saint Luciapatron saint of municipality.
The regulations, which are in a premature stage, were introduced last Thursday by the senator of San Juan, Felix Bautista. It was sent to the commission of Municipal Development and Non-Governmental Organizations in order to render a report and then approve or refute the proposal.
The history It relates that the Matas de Farfán was created in 1780 in honor of Bartolomé Farfán, the Spaniard who explored those lands. It was a key area in the battles before and after the Independence.

San Juan would lose ground
The province Saint Lucia would be made up of Las Matas de Farfán as municipality headland, which would have Carrera de Yeguas and Matayaya as municipal districts.
The municipalities of El Cercano and Vallejuelo with their respective municipal districts of Batista and Derrumbadero, as well as Jorgillo and Chapulín, would also be part of it. The commission of Municipal Development and Non-Governmental Organizations must submit a reportwhich, if favorable, must be approved in two consecutive readings and then complete a similar cycle in the Chamber of Deputies. Afterwards, the promulgation of the Executive Branch would be necessary.
