The community of the town of Caimalito, in Pereira, is immersed in dismay and pain after the tragic discovery of a 9-year-old boy, who had been reported missing since December 16.
Diego Valencia Camayo, a minor who lived in the area, was found dead in a wooded area of the same town on Thursday, December 19, after several days of intensive search by the authorities and the family.

It all started on December 16, when Diego left his house with the intention of asking about the schedule of the Christmas novenas, a tradition that he enjoyed very much. However, the boy never returned, and his family, concerned about his absence, reported him missing.
Diego’s last communication with his family: he said he was going to play with a little friend
The minor’s father, Iván Valencia, told El Tiempo that, upon noticing that Diego was taking longer than expected, he decided to call him by phone. The boy responded and told him that he was going to the field to play with a little friend. However, when Diego’s mother attempted to make a second contact, the call was cut off and the boy stopped responding, causing growing concern for his family.
«He loves novenas and so he went to find out about going with his mother in the afternoon, but he didn’t come back. When an hour had passed, she called him on his cell phone to see why he was taking so long; He answered the phone and told her that he was going to the field to play with a little friend; She asked him why he had left without permission, and then the call was cut off. “He didn’t answer again,” said Diego’s father.
In addition, the family reported that, a few hours after the last phone call, Diego’s profile photo on WhatsApp disappeared, which further increased concern among his loved ones.
After several days of searching, which included the collaboration of the community and authorities, Diego’s lifeless body was found in a wooded area of the same town.
