A 38-year-old woman was murdered by her partner in a remote city of Guantanamo

Havana/The independent observatories Alas Tensas and Yo Sí Te Creo in Cuba confirmed this Monday the murder of Yaneisi Quiala Miranda, 38, allegedly at the hands of his partner, who took his own life after committing the crime. The residents of the Manuel Tames municipality, in Guantánamo, were the first to alert about what happened through social networks.

The observatories, which initially placed the date of death on January 30 – compared to other communicators, who mentioned the 28th – told 14ymedio They are working to verify the exact day on which the events occurred, since until now they only had the information provided by the funeral home.

According to the information available, Yaneisi was an “entrepreneur” and mother of two children, residing in the community of Santa Catalina. The body of the alleged aggressor, identified online as Yonder Sanchez Cuello, 40, was found lifeless on January 31 in the backyard of his father’s house, after several days on the run.

With the murder of Yaneisi there are now seven victims of sexist violence so far this year according to the ’14ymedio’ record

With the murder of Yaneisi there are now seven victims of sexist violence so far this year according to the registry of 14ymedio. Alas Tensas and Yo Sí Te Creo in Cuba also added the feminicide of Yaniuska Machado to their list, this newspaper had published previously. For the two associations, the list has six deaths, since they date the case of Yuleidis Sánchez Rodríguez to December 31, although it occurred after leaving his house after the midnight of that end of the year.

In recent times, the Government has announced some institutional measures, such as the inauguration in Havana of a guidance and advisory office for victims of sexist violence, promoted by the National Organization of Collective Law Firms with the support of the Canadian Embassy and the United Nations Population Fund. However, this initiative – centered in the capital – would have to face the slowness with which official policies usually reach “disconnected” rural places such as Santa Catalina in Manuel Tames, Guantánamo.

The town where the event occurred is a rural area, 80 kilometers away from the provincial capital, Guantánamo, which explains the difficulty of independent organizations in confirming the facts or gathering details.

The Alas Tensas Observatory and Yo Sí te Creo in Cuba insist that the Government still does not develop Cuba still does not have a “comprehensive law on gender violence that coherently articulates the axes of prevention, protection, care and reparation.”
