A 22-year-old girl, Daile López Masso, was murdered this Wednesday night in the district of Mulgoba, in the municipality of Boyeros (Havana), in an attempted assault while she was walking down the street with a friend.
The deceased worked as a cashier at a Cadeca (exchange house) at the José Martí airport, where the young woman who survived, Daylen Fabelo, also worked as a customs officer.
Both left a party shortly after midnight, a source close to the young women tells this newspaper, based on Fabelo’s story, and they were very close to their home, so they were carefree. On the short journey, they ran into a boy, his face hidden by the mandatory mask, who stared at them.
They held his gaze, continues the source, and the young man told them: “Don’t go running.” It was just what they did. Fabelo tripped and fell to the ground, injuring his feet. Due to the blow and the fear, the survivor does not remember when the assailant wounded her in the right arm. She claims to have curled up on the floor on top of her belongings, after putting away her mobile phone and the gold chains that she wore on her chest. “He pushes her and tells her ‘give me everything you have there'”, to which she refused, the same friendship refers.

At that moment, López Masso hit the assailant’s head with a bottle, who, in a struggle, stabbed her in the middle of the chest. Seeing her on the ground, the offender fled.
The girls, unaware of the seriousness of their injuries, got up and ran. At ten meters, López Masso collapsed. It is the moment in which Fabelo realizes that her friend has a hole in her chest, and she begins to scream.
When the police arrived, they were transferred to a nearby polyclinic. There, the sources assure, “there was no gauze, there was nothing, the only thing the nurses did was squeeze the wounds of the two with their hands.”
The young woman was still alive when she was transferred from the polyclinic to the hospital, but she died shortly after. The survivor required stitches and cannot move her hand. “The police wouldn’t let them take her to a hospital because they said they had to wait for the SIUM ambulance [Sistema Integrado de Urgencias Médicas]”, denounce the friends. A police officer offered to take them on the patrol, but the relatives, annoyed with the agents, resisted.
The news of the assault was made public by some network users close to the victims. “Until when is crime going to continue taking the lives of innocent people that what they do is get their things by their own efforts,” said Jackson Díaz DJ on your Facebook wall. “Enough of violence in the streets of Cuba.”
This young man, who claims to be a friend of the girl, laments: “If this country had one thing, you could always be on the street at any time and absolutely nothing was wrong with you, but you can’t be here for a while now because of the terrible assaults that plagues the population.
