A 11J prisoner celebrates four days on hunger strike in the east combined

Havana/Duannis León Taboada has been “planted” since last Friday on hunger and thirst strike in the combined prison of the East, in Havana, demanding “justice and freedom.” Yenisey Taboada Ortiz, mother of the young man, who is a political prisoner of July 11, 2021 (11J), tells 14ymedio That today already took water, but “it is very weak.”

This Monday a lieutenant informed the woman that her son, who is serving a 14 -year sedition for her participation in the protests, had just been recorded as a striker and until they were not isolated (place in an individual cell), would not allow her to see it.

According to the mother to this newspaper, after exerting pressure and being until seven o’clock at night in the east combined, they allowed him a phone call. “I want my freedom mom,” Duannis told him while commenting that he started the strike “for all protesters and for the mothers who are still suffering.”

Taboada managed to convince his son that at least he drank water, since at the beginning of his protest the young man had decided to undertake a hunger and thirst strike. “It is important,” says the woman when she remembered that León was born with problems in a kidney. “Not to mention that I am against the strikes, always respecting everything he is happening, but I want my son alive,” he added.

In an audio shared by the Observatory of Cultural Rights, the mother of the political prisoner is heard: “I am speechless, the only thing I can say and shout the world is that I love my living son. You snatched me alive.”

The NGO stressed that “what is happening today with Duannis, 26, is the climax of a process of deep depression against a full -fledged social crime, deepened by the excesses of the security of the State that acts with total impunity by monopolizing not only the military or police instances, but also the civil institutions that should adhere to their role of public servants.”

Yenisey Taboada Ortiz counts 14ymedio That while he was in the east combined trying to see his son, the state security appeared at his home and left him a police citation. “I will not attend,” he warns. “They don’t stop being underestimating mothers.”

The mother’s mother acknowledges that she is overwhelmed: “Because when the life of a child is in danger the world freezes, but I must be very strong.”

On the eve of the fourth anniversary of the mass demonstrations of 11J. Prisoners Defenders He denounces that of the 1,158 political prisoners who serve sentences on the island, 65% (752) was arrested during those protests. In his report he stressed that the regime has continued to imprison its opponents unpunished – to 10 monthly reason in the last 12 months, although several have been released – including eight new arrested last June, at least half of them in the protests on the 29th in Guanabacoa.
