HAVANA, Cuba.- In the Valle Grande maximum rigor prison, located in the municipality of La Lisa, west of the Cuban capital, the opponent and 11J protester Walfrido Rodríguez Piloto is being held in solitary confinement, denouncing his sister, Marty Rodriguez Pilot.
After several days without receiving calls from his brother, Marty Rodríguez decided to inquire with relatives of his colleagues in the cause. In this way, she was able to find out that the visit would be on July 8 after 1:00 p.m. She points out that that day she decided to go to the prison in the morning, since she suspected that something was not right, and indeed, when she arrived she knew that her brother was isolated since the 4th of July.
According to the official with whom he interviewed, the dissident was in a cell as a security measure, however, they had taken away his right to visit and telephone. However, the woman emphasized that she would not leave without seeing her brother or she would report the case, because he was imprisoned without crimejust for being an opponent and for going out on the street.
Walfrido’s sister explained that at approximately 4:00 in the afternoon they took her into an office and there they allowed her to see the activist for a few minutes.
The woman also told CubaNet that on July 15 the appeal trial of Walfrido Rodríguez and the other demonstrators of his cause will be held, although everyone is aware that the sentence will most likely be ratified or even increased.
For his part, Walfrido Rodríguez Piloto maintains that the real reason that the Valle Grande authorities separated and isolated the protesters was to prevent them from communicating and organizing a protest to commemorate the first anniversary of the popular uprising of July 11, 2021. .
The activist suffers from a stomach ulcer for which in prison they neither provide him with medication nor take him to a doctor’s office for months. He also suffers from seborrheic dermatitis acquired in the Guantanamo prison, which he can keep under control when released, but is aggravated by the humidity and poor ventilation of the prison, especially in the punishment cell.
